• Yes, the NYC organization New Immigrant Community Empowerment (NICE) provides critical resources to prevent worker exploitation and ensure workers' safety and rights are respected. Interested persons must go in person to 71-29 Roosevelt Avenue, 2nd Floor, Queens, NY 11273.

If I am an immigrant without legal status, can I access some type of financial counseling?

• Yes, there are various organizations in NYC that provide free resources such as creating budgets, establishing/improving credit, setting up spending plans, opening a safe and affordable bank account, developing strategies to reduce debt or lower payments, etc.
• NYC provides free one-on-one professional financial counseling coaching to support your goals through their Empowerment Centers.

• Yes, you can file your taxes for free with NYC Free Tax Prep.
• Also, with the organization ARIVA’s Free Tax Preparation Preparation Program.

If I am an immigrant without legal status in the United States, can I open a bank account?

• Yes, there are banks that don’t require a Social Security number (SSN).
• The following banks don’t require you to have a SSN to open an account: Bank of America, Chase, and Wells Fargo.
• As an alternative, you can sign up for Majority, a digital bank, aiming to offer migrants access to bank accounts, a debit card, community discounts, fee free international money transfer and discounted international calling.
